Andy’s Story

It was 1955 and I started my education at a  convent school in the goldfields town of Southern Cross. One day a class of Pre-Primaries  including myself was led outside the school under a tree for a lesson. There we where taught from a book called the Catechism. The first questions was asked. Who made the world? “God made the world” was the answer. I couldn’t fathom who God was but it planted the seed of my search for truth.

Many years later I couldn’t reconcile truth. I remember during scripture classes at Christian Brothers College the teacher (Brother)spoke about when Jesus was before Pilate and Pilate retorted “what is truth”. The teacher said it would have been good to have had Jesus reply.

Years later searching for spiritual truth it became clear to me that Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life.

When confronted with accepting Christ into my life, I found that my Catholic background had many rules that didn’t make sense. I felt that I was already a Christian. So I didn’t need to accept Christ in any other way. Once I realized that If I was a true believer, I should accept Christ over and over. I shrugged off my pride and finally made a commitment in Armidale NSW on a holiday trip with my wife. Everything about life made more sense and I followed the lord with thanksgiving. I accepted a Jesus who died for me, a Jesus who forgave my sin and gave me the greatest hope of everlasting Life. My general attitude is that you have to be crazy not to have a relationship with our creator. He is always walking with us and brings joy into our lives. I finally realized that Christianity is not complicated truth, but a simple truth to believe as a little child. Jesus died for all of us.
