Not what you were expecting? How the King God sent is greater than the king we are looking for.
After being tested by the religious leaders 3 times as they tried to prove to the crowds that Jesus could not possibly be the promised Messiah; Jesus now tests the religious leaders with a question of His own. It’s about who they expected the Messiah to be, and their answer showed that they had missed critical truths in the Scriptures. Their problem wasn’t that Jesus didn’t fulfil God’s promises, their problem was that they didn’t realise how great God’s promises really are!
In this encounter from Matthew 22:34-46 we are challenged to not settle for a version of Jesus who can’t really save. We want to let God reveal the true Jesus to us. We want to make sure that we believe in the essential truths that are necessary for us to enter His Kingdom and to continue to get to know Him so we can live as citizens and ambassadors of His Kingdom.
