In Matthew 6 Jesus exposes the motives of the ‘hypocrites’ who look like they are offering money, prayers and acts of devotion out of love for God and people, but really they’re in it for themselves. They’re not bringing gifts, they’re making investments. Jesus instructs His hearers to do something different. Surprisingly different and surprisingly good for this life and the life to come.
