1 Corinthians 4: A Pedestal or the Rubbish Pile?
As leaders in the church at Corinth, both Paul and Apollos knew what it was like to be put on pedestals and treated like garbage! We’ve experienced that too in every community we’ve belonged to. We don’t always treat leaders well; and leaders don’t always respond well to how they’re treated! 1 Corinthians accurately diagnoses the root problem; exposes the danger of the pedestal as much as the rubbish pile; and helpfully shows us how we can treat people better and respond better to how others are treating us. It shows us how to be the kind of community without pedestals or rubbish piles, just people loving each other & helping each other become more like Jesus.
