Chris Carrie

Chris grew up in the Perth suburb of Graylands, in a family with little or no church affiliation.  He came to faith in Christ in 1989 through an evangelistic event, and eventually joined the founding group of Joondalup Community Church in 1992.

At school, Chris especially enjoyed the sciences of physics & chemistry, going on to begin a B.Sc. at Uni of WA in 1984.  However, a career in science was not for him, so he began working in the field of irrigation, where he stayed until he moved to Sydney in 1994 to study at Churches of Christ Theological College. (The college is now known as ACOM – Australian College of Ministry)

While in Sydney, he met his wife Alison, where they married & began a family, which now consists of 2 children – Joel and Michelle.

After graduating, Chris went back into “secular” work (irrigation again), rather than entering vocational ministry.  Over the following 12 years, he gained a lot of experience with people in a very non-Christian environment.  He also grew in the maturity needed to take on church leadership, until he got the call from Kingsley in early 2008, to consider becoming the Associate Pastor.  He’s glad for the time he had to wait until entering ministry, as it taught him many lessons about God and himself, as well as patience.

Chris’ passions are to see the Church mobilised to serve the community, and to support the work of chaplains & other “coal-face” ministries.  He loves music (guitar & bass especially), sport (hockey is his greatest sporting love) and seeing others discover their passions & put them to use serving God.
